Montgomery History Purchases the Rockville Farmers Banking and Trust Building
Montgomery Preservation, Inc. congratulates Montgomery History, a MPI Member Organization, on this purchase of the historic bank. Built in 1930, it’s the last remaining Art Deco commercial building left in Rockville and is a contributing element to the Courthouse Historic District on both the National Register of Historic Places and the City of Rockville’s historic registry.
This space will allow Montgomery History to develop the Montgomery County History Center that will include exhibits, lectures, receptions, the Sween Library, administrative offices, and an oral history recording studio. Renovations to the building are expected to take 12-18 months. More information is available in the January 30 coverage in Bethesda Today.
