Be a Judge for Montgomery County History Day: Registration Deadline
Participating in the county’s National History Day as a judge has a lasting impact not only on the students participating but also the judges themselves. But don’t just take our word for it, read what past judges have shared:
“For more than a decade, I have served as a judge at the History Day competition; it is one of the highlights of my year. The expertise, the passion, and the creativity that the participants bring to their projects all feed my soul for weeks. Listening to a middle schooler describe how she interviewed one of the leaders of Maryland’s civil rights movement of the 1960s sent chills down my spine. Seeing a first-generation American describe Bangladesh’s war for independence in the 1970s through the eyes of their grandparents – who had participated in it — left me in awe of the Bangladeshi people. And reading about the negotiations to end the “Toledo War” between Michigan and Ohio in the 1830s gave me new perspectives on the depths of Big Ten football rivalries. The future of history is bright in Montgomery County, and it needs the support of caring adults.”
and….
“My wife and I have both volunteered as History Day judges in Montgomery County and this has been genuinely fun for both of us. Neither of us is a trained teacher or historian, yet the process is welcoming, engaging, and easy to step into. Each time, we’ve come away inspired by the creativity, curiosity, and passion of the next generation, and it’s incredibly rewarding to play even a small role in encouraging their love of history.”
