April Open House at the Silver Spring B&O Station

April 6 @ 10:00 am 2:00 pm

Step on Board! Explore Silver Spring’s Historic Railroad Station!

MPI is happy to announce that first-Saturday Open Houses at the Silver Spring Station will resume in April, after a winter of needed repairs and the start of construction of the Metropolitan Branch Hiker-Biker Trail around the station property.

Construction of a new Metro Branch Trail bridge over Georgia Ave has begun. As part of this construction a temporary security fence has been installed across the station parking lot by the contractor. A drive-through gate will be open for this event. Please note that because of equipment using the lot, the number of available spaces will be limited. Additional parking is available across Georgia Avenue at County garage and lot #4 (8100 Fenton St., accessible from Sligo Ave.) and at the lot at 938 Philadelphia Ave; both are one block from the station.

Special Exhibit: Rockville’s Road to Brown – Learn about Montgomery County’s unique connection to Brown vs Board of Education. The road to equality in education was neither smooth nor straight. Who was William B. Gibbs, Jr. and how did his challenge to Montgomery County’s School Board for gross inequities in staff pay and student spending bring young NAACP lawyer Thurgood Marshall to Rockville? Learn how events here started the journey to the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court landmark case Brown vs Board and its historic impact on education in America. This exhibit is courtesy of Peerless Rockville.
