For more than 60 years, Montgomery County has been challenged with preserving and protecting history as represented by its historic buildings and sites in the face of extraordinary growth. How was local preservation influenced by national and other community actions and how did Montgomery County choose to identify, rescue, and preserve certain sites, both public and private? This presentation addresses the impact and importance of places, people, politics, and progression of the preservation movement in the County, with attention to successes and failures, as well as signposts for the future. Speaker Eileen McGuckian played a major role in this movement.
