Special Guest: Jerry A. McCoy of the Silver Spring Historical Society will join us from 11am to 1pm.

Have you ever been curious about what the built environment looked like 64 or 94 years ago around your Silver Spring-area home, street or neighborhood? He will have on display bound volumes of the rare 1931 Klinge and 1961 Sanborn fire insurance plat maps that include downtown Silver Spring and the nearby surrounding Maryland neighborhoods. He will look up the address for you and you can take a photo of the page. Amaze and astound your family and friends when you show them the image!

Jerry is the author of Historic Silver Spring and Downtown Silver Spring.

Ongoing Events:

• Take a self-guided tour outside & inside the station.
• “Train Spot” under the canopy! See locomotives galore! Wave at the engineers!
• Indoors, enjoy a model train display (HO scale), maintained by the Rockville Model Railroad Society.
• Play with wooden toy train sets.
• Visit Station Manager’s ticket office and 1945 telephone booth.
• See railroad photos & memorabilia, including the original B&O “Drumhead,” along with photos & memorabilia of the original Downtown Silver Spring.

This station is in the National Register of Historic Places, a Montgomery County Historic Site, and a gem in Silver Spring’s Arts & Entertainment District.

Please note that because of curb reconstruction, there is no parking onsite. Parking is available at county garage and lot #4 (8100 Fenton St.) that is one block from the station. Traffic and crosswalk lights facilitate crossing Georgia Avenue at Sligo Avenue in front of the station.
