Streamlined Trains: Art Deco Society
May 13, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The role of railroads in America’s development and culture cannot be overstated. Those impacts included a focus on style and luxury for railroad passengers on high-end trains. Beginning in the 1930s, Art Deco emerged as the prominent design element for railroad locomotives and passenger cars, manifested in streamlining, exterior and interior color pallets and interior space, function and accessories.
This program will illustrate these developments primarily through the work of and rivalry between two well-known 20th Century industrial designers: Raymond Loewy and Henry Dreyfus.
